EMILY Diamond has ended her season on a high but the glorious summer is set to continue as she now switches her attention to getting married next weekend.

The Bristol & West AC sprinter, who lives in Frome, ties the knot with James Leonard, whom she has known since they were both students at Bristol Grammar School and Diamond was just making her name as a talented young sprinter.

Now as an established international her wedding guests will no doubt be keen to take a closer look at the World Championships 4x400m relay silver she won last Sunday to go alongside the Olympic bronze from Rio last year and the European gold, also in 2016.

‘That is a pretty cool tally,’ agreed Diamond.

‘Hopefully I can now add a gold at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane early next year for a complete set. I did win one four years ago (at Glasgow) but I didn’t run for the team in the final so it wasn’t the same. It would be nice to have a complete set.’

So while Diamond is relishing the chance to step off the daily grind of training and enjoy some much deserved R&R for the next few weeks the on-going pursuit of further glory continues.
