Jenkin retains his Cornwall cross country title

Mark Jenkin retained his Cornwall cross country title as Devon clubs dominated the second Charles Stanley Westward League race at Newquay last Sunday.

While Jenkin is a member of Bideford he is Cornwall born and bred (from Morwenstow), and always takes great pride in contesting his county event – even if he is wearing a Devon club vest.

In fact Devon club runners filled the top five places, including Exeter-based guest Andrew Chambers in fourth as he continues his comeback after injury. Taunton’s Phil Burden took sixth and Cornwall AC’s Dan Rodgers finished first local runner in seventh.

After two races Exeter University still lead the men’s team competition (2,868 points) from Exmouth Harriers (2,857) and Bideford (2,842).

Eleanor Davies was crowned women’s Cornwall cross country champion as she ran away with the title at Newquay finishing 40 seconds clear of the field.

A surprise second was Charlie Arnell of Torbay in what was her first appearance in the Westward League.
