Wet and cold conditions for this year's seven-mile Kilmington Kanter...

WITH the weather returning once again, Good Friday morning turned out to be very wet and cold for the seven-mile Kilmington Kanter; a multi-terrain race starting  encompassing two challenging hills. There was great AVR success with the club claiming the first seven places.

James Green was beaten by Ollie Caute by 2 secs last year, but he romped to victory in 43:55 with Ollie 2nd, 44:04 and Simon Davis 3rd, 44:30. There were many age winners with Karen Eyre 27th, 1st FV40, 55:19; Clare Hansford 29th, 1st FV50, 55:27, Eleanor Wood 33rd, 1st FV50,57:17, Patrick Devine-Wright 6th, 1st MV40, 46:55; John Blackledge 18th, 1st FV50, 52:28.

The Kilmington 2.5 mile Fun Run was won by William Birchall, 17:53 one second ahead of Henry Birchall both of Mrs Ethelston’s Primary School with AVR’s Harvey Green 3rd, 18:20. Other young AVR’s running were; Sam Eyre, 5th, 18:58; Holly Eyre 17th, 23:06 and Stephen Johns 22nd, 24:59.

There was also a 1K for Juniors that was won by Eli Baker-Price in 3:36.

Elsewhere, Cliff Marriott ran the inaugural London Landmarks Half Marathon in 1:57 while Matt Clist and James Green ran the East Devon way from Lyme Regis to Exmouth. Despite some flooded sections in the valleys, the going was generally good. The GPS clocked the finish time at 7:20:46 for the 38 miles route.
