The Exeter Harriers’ under-13 boys’ squad have enjoyed a fantastic start to their winter season.
The trio of Charlie Hague, Oliver Capps and Sam Mills followed up their win at the Midland Road Relay Championships last month with a battling fifth place in the National Relays over the same Sutton Park course in Birmingham last weekend.
The Harriers didn’t get off to the best of starts with Mills coming home in 40th on stage one but that gave Capps the chance to scythe his way through the field to gain 29 places clocking the tenth equal fastest time of the day to bring the club up to 11th.
Running the last stage, Hague gained a further six places to finish fifth overall, just 15 seconds off a place on the podium.
Nonetheless, that represents a terrific achievement for the boys and it will be interesting to see how they fare over the winter.
