Team celebrate with awards night


Bristol Baseball Club celebrated their South West League championship-winning season at their annual awards night.

The club presented 28 awards to players and supporters. For the Badgers, Tom Hollies picked up the accolades for best batting average, best on base percentage, best pitcher and MVP. Nick South was best out-fielder and most improved player while Rhodri Theaker was catcher of the year and stole the most bases for the champions.
The Bats also had a great season finishing second to the Badgers in the Northern Conference.

Ashley Pooley picked up three certificates, winning the batting average, on base percentage and best outfielder awards. Newcomer Ben Smith was voted the Bats’ MVP, while Tom Rowe was the most improved player.

Rich Green took home awards for most home runs, stolen bases and runs scored; Ricky Gellatly was best pitcher while Bats’ team manager Billy Vickery was best catcher.

Alex Brown and Par Eliasson picked up the RBI awards for the Bats and Badgers respectively while Brown was also voted best infielder for the Bats.

The Lithuanian trio of Vilmantas Katinas, Nerius Tamosiunas and Deivydas Trinkunas won the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award for their efforts on and off the field while Birgitta Elaisson, mother of Swedish twins Nils and Par, won ‘Best Supporter’.

The Lithuanians had a good night picking up six awards between them. Trinkunas was judged the best Badger infielder; hit the most home runs and won the Somerdale Slugger Award while Katinas scored the most runs for the Badgers.
