Coasters create history...

AFTER two hard years of training, and narrowly missing out on a play-offs place last season, the Coasters from Weymouth and Dorchester have finally been crowned South West England under 16s Basketball League Champions.

During the regular season the boys travelled from Penryn in Cornwall to the Brecon’s in Wales to play against the South West’s finest. In total they played 22 games and finished up winning 21 only suffering one defeat against Torbay Tigers.

The Coasters defeated Bristol Academy Flyers 78-63 to reach the 2017/18 play-offs where their first round tie was against Chelmsford Lions was one of the hardest they had played to date but they came through 76-61.

This put the boys through to the second round and a game against the South Premier number one team Haringey Hawks at White Hart Lane, North London where they came up against a well drilled team who  topped the Premier League. Unfortunately this is where the Coasters winning streak would end but not without a fight.

Assistant Coach Marc Gorman said: “Thank you to all the players for making this the most exciting and enjoyable season I have ever been part of.”

Head Coach Catello Landolfi added: “We are in the top 16 teams in the country. The lads have rewritten the club’s record books.”
