Third place for Ilminster bowler in the Commonwealth Games...

ILMINSTER bowler, Rob Paxton, eased through the singles section stage of the Commonwealth Games down in Australia with a trio of victories over Arun Kumar (Fiji, 21-13), Shannon McIlroy (New Zealand, 21-18) and Cephas Kimani (Kenya, 21-14).

A further 21-16 win over McIlroy again in the quarter final on Thursday secured a semi-final against Australia’s Arron Wilson. But this proved to be a step too far for Paxton who went down 21-16 and had to be content with the bronze medal after beating Scotland’s Darren Burnett 21-14.

Paxton was also a member of the England Triples team which was beaten 19-18 by Norfolk Island in the quarter final.
