Winning ways after six successive defeats...

AFTER six consecutive defeats Dorchester A finally achieved their first win of the season in Dorset County League Division One when they beat Lyme Regis 2 66-43 (6-4) on a hot, sultry evening at the County Town’s home ground.

A day of baking sunshine had left the Dorchester green playing with the pace and swing of an indoor venue and the home team’s Colin Lawley, Gerald Cornick, Robbie Legg and skip Howard King made full use of their indoor expertise as they gained a massive 36-5 victory against R Hobbs, N Solomom, A Nabarro and R Legg.

On the adjoining rink, Dorchester team Captain Alexander Wilson was not having the same luck as he and his team-mates – George Aslett, Alan Lewis, Dave Hawkes – found themselves 7-17 down after 16 ends playing B Driscoll, P Stephens, B Parsons and skip D Meylan. But a stirring comeback by the Wilson rink culminated in Dorchester holding two shots on the final end which would have forced a hard-fought tie, but Lyme skip D Meylan drew onto the shoulder of the shot wood to give the visitors a 19-18 victory.

Dorchester’s Ken Coutanche, John Saunders, Rob Jennings and skip Roy Fowler evening also ended in disappointment when their attempted fightback against B McLennan, A Henson, K Hickman and B Payne fizzled out as Lyme eased to a 19-12 success.
