Honiton Bowls Club round-up...

THE Fortescue Trophy Shield is presented each year at the Annual Charity Bowling Match at Honiton.

This trophy was presented to the club 20 years ago by Mr and Mrs Fortescue in memory of his Grandfather, a founder member of the English Bowling Association and friend of the cricketer W.G.Grace who was the first elected president of the English Bowling Association. All funds raised at the match will go to the Admiral Nurses.

The winners of the Shield were the team of G Kille, N Baxter, W Heard with a score of plus 12.

Other matches at Honiton week were the mixed friendly at home against the Nomads.  Honiton won on all rinks and Honiton 97- 51 overall. Top Rink was D Roberts, Joan Mackintosh, N Baxter & M Bright.

Honiton lost 69-58 in the Mixed Friendly Triples played away at Axminster. Top rink was B Nicholls, L Howell, K Clarke (21-14).

The East of Exe match saw Honiton play at home against Cullompton. Honiton won one rink, drew one rink and lost on two, winning overall 67-52. Top rink was S Phillips, G Stafrace, Y Rayner & T Pipe (28-6).

In the Ladies Over 50s match played at home against Seaton. Honiton gained two points and Seaton four.  Top rink L Carless, D Courtney & H Chambers (20-19).

The Men’s County Trophy match against Feniton saw Honiton win one rink, draw another and lose two, however, having enough shots to win the overall match.

The Men’s Over 60s A team were beaten 56-31 by visitors Tiverton West End A who banked eight points.

The Mens Over 60s B team played Heavitree C team at home winning one rink by 12 shots but losing on the other by 15 so going down overall by just three shots. Honiton gained two league points.
