Jude Moore, 14, from Hillfields and 15-year-old Jack Oram, from Melksham, represented the Fishponds-based Downend Boxing Club at the event, which took place in Bishopswater, County Wexford.

In the semi-finals, England representative Moore took on Jeremiah Tiba, of Naas, County Kildare, and was awarded a unanimous points decision after three action-packed rounds.

Oram faced David Kinsella, of St Anthony’s Boxing Club, County Wexford. A tough contest saw honours even in the first round but, in his first international tournament, Oram rallied to book his place in the final, taking a split judges’ decision.

In the finals Moore won an entertaining contest on points against Ryan Cullen of Ballagh, County Wexford, while Oram faced a class operator in All-Ireland champion Barry O’Connor, of Castleisland, County Kerry. Oram wasn’t at all phased by his opponent’s obvious experience, but the Kerry boxer knew that bit more and got the judges’ nod after a quality contest.

Downend coach Craig Turner said: “I am very pleased with the guys’ performance. Jude is now no stranger to international competition and Wexford served as an excellent warm-up for an England appearance against Scotland on Thursday (November 30).

“Jack’s medal is fantastic and represents significant improvement following his hard work and dedication.”
