SOMERSET get their 2019 Specsavers County Championship season underway on Friday when they host Kent at the County Ground (11am start).

“Everyone is really excited and inevitably there will be some nerves come Friday morning,” said Somerset head coach Jason Kerr said. “However, we are as well prepared as we can be, so for me it’s about making sure that the guys are ready to go out there and enjoy themselves.

“Having been promoted last year, Kent will have a lot momentum. Over the years we’ve had some interesting battles in white ball cricket, but with the red ball things will be different.”

Craig Overton added: “A new season is always an exciting time. After a long winter, everyone wants to be back playing proper cricket. Friendlies get you ready but nothing compares to that first game. We’re all looking forward to it and I hope that we can start the season off as we did last year. If we can start the season well then who knows what can happen.”
