Dolan picks up Teignbridge Senior Sportsperson of the Year

Lauren Dolan, Devon’s Great Britain track and road international, is the new Teignbridge ‘Sports Personality of the Year’.

Dolan, from Bickington near Newton Abbot, received the award at the annual presentation evening at Dawlish’s Langstone Cliff Hotel.

The Liv CC-Epic Coaching and Mid-Devon CC rider has just been promoted to the GB Senior Development Squad for the first time, after another year of medal-winning progress at national and international level.

But she made the biggest headlines in one ‘defeat’.

Dolan suffered gory-looking leg injuries in a crash during the Junior Time Trial at the World Road Race Championships in Norway in September – and still finished the event in a good time.

She celebrated her 18th birthday in a Bergen hospital, where she had undergone two hours of surgery to repair her wounds.

It was a good night for the Mid-Devon club at the Teignbridge awards. Their Dartmoor Classic ‘sportive’, which has just sold out nearly 4,000 entries for the 12th edition next summer, was named ‘Event of the Year’.
