Rodbenders hold big lead over second place Halwell

FISHING was most productive in the fourth heat of the Ply- mouth and District Shore League, and the weighing and recording team were hard pressed to cope with the volume of fish that were brought to the scales.

Twenty-one were specimen-rated with smooth- hound taking the first four positions, endorsing that it has been a remarkable year of success for those willing to put in a 220-mile round trip from Plymouth to the Bristol Channel beaches.

Four of the top ten recordings were all smooth-hounds: S Clarke (Raiders), 13-15-0; R Yorke (Raiders), 13-6-0; G Cuthbertson (Castaways Coastal Warriors), 12-7-0; G Andrews (Roving Rods A), 12-4-0 – all those fish were over 153 per cent – M Neale (Castaways), grey mullet, 5-9-8; B Downe (Castaways), thin-lipped mullet, 4-10-0; P Fulton (Castaways Coastal Warriors), bull huss, 12-0-0; S Arnold (Rodbenders), thornback ray, 10-10-8; S Gray (Castablankers) thornback ray, 10-8-0, and D Downe (Castaways Coastal Warriors), grey mullet, 4-13-8.

The Rodbenders head Division One by 101 points. Their ‘Three specimen’ score is 212 and they have six specimen points. Halwell Projects Pot Black have 95 points but a very much better ‘Three Species’ score of 262 and four specimen points. Roving Rods, in third, have 89 (171 ‘three specimen’ and eight specimen points).

Division Two is led by Stonehouse A over Ply- mouth A and Naval Stores.

The second round of the South West Seabaits Knock-Out Cup resulted in wins for Raiders, Roving Rods A, Halwell Projects, Pot Black Cast-outs,

Stonehouse Juniors, Naval Stores and Cast- aways Coastal Warriors and there was a tie be- tween Castaways and Rodbenders.

The draw for the Rob Hobbs Bait and Tackle Challenge Cup resulted as follows: Division One: Raiders v Rodbenders, Roving Rods B v Roving Rods A, Halwell Project v Castablankers, and Cast- aways Coastal Warriors v Kingsbridge. Division Two: Naval Stores v King- fishers, Stonehouse B v Stonehouse A, Plymouth A v Stonehouse Juniors, and Pot Black Cast-outs v Plymouth B. The round will be fished over next weekend.
