BRIDPORT MOVING ON UP

Hard-fought victory for Bridport as they continue their climb...

A SUPERB 20-yard free keep from Andy Martin was enough to move Bridport up to eighth spot in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Bridgwater Town last night.

Martin stepped up, after striker Mark Salter had been felled, to curl his 33rd minute free kick past the Bridgy defensive wall for his first goal of the season as the Bees made in-roads into their fixture back log in front of the crowd of 102 at St Mary’s.

Salter, fast approaching a career-milestone 500th goal went close on two occasions; striking the crossbar midway through the first half and then being denied in a one-on-one opportunity by visiting keeper Jacob O’Callaghan who normally features between the sticks for Cronies FC in the Devon & Exeter League Premier Division.

Next up for Adam Fricker’s side is Friday’s trip to Street FC in the first of a series of 12 matches in what is sure to be a gruelling 29 days.
