BRISTOL City narrowly missed out on reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals after losing 1-0 to Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers at Ashton Gate on Sunday.
Wolves took the lead in the 28th minute when Ivan Cavaleiro netted after good play down the right by Matt Doherty.
City, who went into the match on the back of nine consecutive wins, threw everything at their higher league visitors in the second period and could easily have snatched an equaliser.
Matty Taylor and Jay Dasilva both went close, while in injury-time Robin goalkeeper Frank Fielding came up and forced a save out of his opposite number John Ruddy in a frantic ending to the game.
City boss Lee Johnson felt Wolves’ winning goal should not have stood.
“I did think it was handball for the goal,” he said. “I wasn’t sure whether we were playing Wolves or the Harlem Globetrotters at one point.”
