DAVIS PUT IN TEMPORARY CHARGE OF SAINTS AFTER HUGHES SACKING

FORMER Torquay United loanee Kelvin Davis has been put in temporary charge of Southampton after the Premier League side sacked Mark Hughes on Monday morning.

Welshman Hughes lost his job at St Mary’s Stadium after a 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Saturday left them 18th in the table with just one win to their name all season.

Assistant first-team manager Mark Bowen and coach Eddie Niedzwiecki have also left the south coach club, leaving Davis, who played for Torquay in 1994 while on loan from Luton, in charge for Wednesday’s match with Tottenham.

Southampton say a search for a new manager is already under way.
