RISING star, Jordan Stevens, has landed a dream move to Leeds United after The Championship club paid Forest Green Rovers a ‘six-figure fee’ for the 17 year-old.
Having impressed for the Under-18s, Stevens has broken into the first-team at The New Lawn this season and has impressed greatly during his 15 outings, most of which have come off the substitutes’ bench.
There were a number of clubs vying for his signature but he will head to Yorkshire with Rovers also negotiating various performance-related add-ons that could see the fee double.
“It’s a great move for Jordan and for the club,” manager Mark Cooper told forestgreenroversfc.com. “He has impressed Leeds with some of his cameo appearances and they’re looking to develop their Under-23 group and he will fit into that.
“We can’t stand in the player’s way and it’s a great deal for the club.”
Stevens signed his first professional deal with Rovers in September and made his first start for the club on New Year’s Day.
“There’s been a lot of interest in Jordan since he broke into the first-team and even beyond that from pre-season,” added Academy Manager and former Weston super Mare boss, Scott Bartlett. “We spent a lot of time analysing the different clubs and thought Leeds United was the right one with a clear pathway for him and a development plan that will hopefully see him move forward as we think he might into their first team.
“From our point of view, we don’t want to lose him but at the same time, it’s an incredible deal for us and Jordan.”
