Weymouth 5 Gosport Borough 0
Evo-Stik South Premier – att; 1,007
Brandon Goodship showed just why he is the Evo-Stik South Premier division’s top scorer with his third hat trick of the season as Weymouth shrugged off the challenge of lowly Gosport to all but confirm their play-off place.
The Terras, cheered on by the fourth four figure crowd of the season at the Bob Lord stadium, were quickly into their stride and Goodship claimed an early assist as his cross was nodded home by Harry Baker with just two minutes on the clock.
Both teams then failed to take half chances before Ben Thomson conjured up a superb pass that Goodship tucked away to double the hosts’ advantage midway through the first half.
The result was confirmed moments before the interval when Goodship engineered some space to curl home a superb shot from the corner of the penalty box.
The second half saw the visitors look to enforce some damage limitation with some spirited defending whilst creating very little.
Goodship eventually netted his 33rd goal of the season 17 minutes from time with another crisp finish and then created the fifth when his crossed was turned into his own net by Boro’ defender Ed Sanders.
The win sees the Terras five points clear of Kettering Town in third spot, behind top two Hereford and Kings Lynn Town. One point from their remaining five matches will guarantee their place among the play-off quartet. This could come on Saturday from the trip to face Kettering.
