Dorchester Town came unstuck in the mud at the Avenue Stadium as they slithered to their heaviest home defeat in over a year.

Dorch, under the guidance of Trevor Senior (pictured) as Steve Thompson was absent, came in to the game with a full squad and included Luke Winsper, back after injury having successfully come through a run out against Bishops Stortford and Ross Carmichael who had completed his suspension.

But two goals in the opening quarter hour of each half put paid to The Magpies hopes of extending a watertight mini run at home which had brought back-to-back 1-0 wins.

The Saints took the lead when Tom Meechan fired home from six yards out. Dorchester then managed to keep out a series of corners before the lead was doubled when Dion Sembie-Ferris got on the end of a Kyran Wiltshire cross and it took a fine save by Chris Weale to keep the hosts within reach.

They squandered a golden chance to cut the arrears just before half time when Antonio Diaz’ shot was parried by Saints keeper Findlay Irons straight to Billy Lowes who fired wide when he seemed certain score.

Having been so close to 2-1. Dorch slipped 3-0 behind early in the second period when Meechan turned provider setting up Nabil Shariff who slid the ball under the advancing Weale.

The results was confirmed soon after when Shariff notched his second just before the hour after Meechan and Dave Bridges had both struck the woodwork in the build up. The win takes St Neots up to 12th while Dorchester sit 20th ahead of Saturdays trip to face St Ives Town.
