HOLT TAKE DORSET SENIOR CUP

Holt United run out worthy winners.

Dorset Senior Cup Final

Holt United 4 Westland Sports Reserves 1

Holt United beat Westland Sports Reserves 4-1 to lift the Dorset Senior Trophy on a very wet night at the County Ground, Hamworthy.

Despite playing one division below Holt, Westlands provided plenty of evidence as to how they had beaten two Dorset Premier League teams on their way to the Final. Although Holt rattled the woodwork twice in the first half, they found it hard to break down the resolute Westland defence before Mike Haskell eventually put Holt ahead two minutes before the interval.

After half-time Westlands enjoyed their best spell and deservedly equalised on 71 minutes through the dangerous Szymon Matuszewski.

Two minutes later Nathan Saxby provided Holt with the perfect response by striking a right foot effort from outside of the penalty area to leave Chris Bennett in the Westland’s goal with no chance.

Holt added further goals from Elliott Manson and Nathan Saxby in the final 20 minutes to secure the Trophy they had failed to win at the final hurdle last season.

Following the conclusion of the Match the Dorset Senior Trophy was presented to the Holt United Captain Charlie Gajic and Club Chairman Terry Bradfor, by Steve Whittle the Chairman of the Dorset County Football Association.
