HONITON TOWN BACK INTO WINNING WAYS

Three-game losing streak comes to an end...

Honiton Town 4 Torridgeside 2

South West Peninsula League Division One (East)

Honiton Town ended a three-game losing run and ended a four and half hour goal drought in the South West Peninsula League Division One (East) with a fine 4-2 win over Torridgeside on Sunday.

Honiton got off to the perfect start when Ash Small netted with just two minutes on the clock.

The lead was doubled when Ben Ede stepped up and made no mistake from the penalty spot and things got worse for Torridgeside who then had a man sent off.

The result appeared to be put to bed when Martyn Hancock made it 3-0. However, the visitors, who were beaten 1-0 by Alphington just 24 hours earlier, showed commendable battling qualities to score twice through Sam Fishwick and Ian Cockwill and make things a little twitchy for the Mountbatten Park faithful.

But top scorer Ede struck again for his 12th goal of the season and the points were in the bag.

The win takes the Hippos, currently 14th, to within two points of neighbours Sidmouth Town ahead of Wednesday’s visit by St Martins (6.30pm ko)
