St Austell appoint Chris Knight as first-team manager

PREMIER side St Austell have appointed Chris Knight as first-team manager, and he will be assisted by James Powell.

The pair will be in charge for Tuesday’s home game against Ivybridge Town, and the club have thanked Phil Lafferty for stepping into the breach until the appointment was confirmed.

West outfit Penzance have also parted company with manager Bryn Wheeler, who stepped aside for personal reasons. Wheeler’s assistant Steve Allen will now hold the reins with support from captain Mark Vercesi and trainer-coach Frazer Cadman.

‘Many, many thanks go to Bryn for all his hard work, and the excellent job he did taking the post on at the end of last season after a dismal run of results under the previous management,’ said Magpies chairman Terry Burgess.
