PORTLAND United Reserves begin life in the Dorset Premier League with a new face on the sidelines.

Former Chickerell United manager Steve Coward joins the Blues second string’s current management team of Justin Faulkner and Steve Spearing as the team heads up into the Dorset Premier League after their place was confirmed at the DPL’s recent AGM.

Up in the first team, new manager Brendon King as added experience in the form of Sam Clarke from Poole Town. Clarke has previously played under King at both Weymouth and Hamworthy United. King is confident that the vast majority of last season’s squad will be under his guidance again in the upcoming Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division season.

Off the field Portland are looking to fill several positions within the club’s structure;

  • Committee Members – Voluntary position to help in all aspects of running a Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division club. A Blues spokesman said: “It’s a common misconception that individuals in these positions will be required to put money in to the club, this is incorrect as Portland United is a club that lives within its means, all we ask for is your time and enthusiasm.”
  • Website and Social Media Administrator – Voluntary position, with a remit to keep everyone informed about everything going on at PUFC using it’s website which has had one million hits for the last two successive seasons alongside the club’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
  • Dorset League Secretary – Voluntary position acting as League secretary for the Reserve and A teams.
  • Groundsman – Voluntary position responsible for maintenance of the pitch and some maintenance aspects of the ground. Experience preferred but not essential.
