JEAN-YEVES KOUE NIATE has become the latest Torquay United player to sign a new contract at Plainmoor.
Koue Niate joined the Gulls last summer following a spell with Guiseley and the French defender has become a firm favourite with the Torquay faithful having made23 appearances and scored three goals.
His imposing presence in defence has proved a real asset in United’s quest for promotion.
Gulls manager Gary Johnson is delighted the defender has committed his future to the club.
“It’s great news that Jean has committed himself to us,” Johnson. “I feel Jean has improved tremendously over the season and there’s still more improvement to come. He’s a very strong, quick, athletic centre-back and he’ll be a great asset in our quest for promotion.”
Johnson added: “That’s a full house now – a full house of boys that have committed themselves to the club. That is a very powerful thing when all of your contracted players are desperate for themselves and for each other to get to the next level.”
Koue Niate said: “I’m really happy to sign a new deal and I just wanted get this done so that I can focus on the pitch.
“The day I first signed for this club, I wanted to achieve the objective of gaining promotion. I really enjoy being here.”
