TROON AFC READY FOR ANNIVERSARY SEASON

Smeeth at the helm...

IT’S Troon AFC’s 50th anniversary this season and, to mark the occasion, the club were keen to ensure the man in charge of their First XI is someone who knows it inside out.

Jason Smeeth, new boss of the club’s First XI, who play in the Trelawny League’s Premier Division, has a strong connection with the club and indeed last season made 19 appearances for the side he has now taken over.

The club also pointed out in their announcement that not only does Jason offer a wealth of coaching experience, but he is the only Troon player to have captained the club to a senior trophy.

That was back in 2011-12 when they beat Perranwell 1-0 to pick up the Cornwall Combination League Supplementary Cup.

Kevin Selby will continue to assist the First XI management while they welcome back James Issac as an additional assistant.

There have been management changes for the Second XI as well, with the Grouter Park club’s committee feeling good about the season to come hoping that they have struck, in their words, ‘the perfect balance of structure and stability while providing a platform to create a winning experience for both teams in the season ahead and beyond.’
