River pops up with late show

TRURO City got their season off to a winning start in dramatic style thanks to a last gasp winner from River Allen.

The home side looked like having to settle for a point after surrendering a 2-0 half time lead, as the Kent side hit back to level the scores.

However, Allen earned City all three points with a priceless stoppage time winner as his speculative effort from the left found the far corner of the visitors’ net.

The game had started well for Truro when impressive new signing Aaron Lamont gave them a tenth minute lead as his shot was deflected past Welling keeper Chris Lewington.

And right on half time, Cody Cooke doubled City’s advantage with a marvellous first time finish from Allen’s fine pass.

But the Kent side quickly pulled a goal back six minutes into the second half, when player-manager Jamie Coyle headed home.

And it was the Welling central defender who soon made it 2-2 with another powerful header from Christian Nanetti’s free-kick.

City must then have thought it was going to be a repeat of last season’s open- ing day 2-2 home draw against Chelmsford City when they had also led 2-0.

However, up popped Allen to deliver the win as City celebrated the news that they will be at Treyew Road for the whole of this season, ahead of a move to the purpose-built Stadium for Cornwall, with a thrilling victory.
