Yeovil Town beat League Two opponents Chesterfield 3-2, thanks to a 90th minute header from James Bailey.
Yeovil started brightly with a goal within the first few minutes. In the third minute, Fela Olomola fired in a low shot from the edge of the box to take his tally to five goals this season.
Being a goal down in the first three minutes, Chesterfield’s problems mounted. Defender Zak Jules was carried off on a stretcher and was replaced with Laurence Maguire.
Yeovil continued to push for the second goal. François Zoko had a header denied by the woodwork and Otis Khan came close with a curling effort.
The second goal eventually came in the 26th minute when Otis Khan beat Joe Anyon with a shot from 20 yards. This goal equalled Olomola’s goal tally for the season.
Chesterfield came out determined after the break and pulled a goal back in the 51st minute. Chris O’Grady sent in a low cross into the yeovil box and Robbie Weir clevery flicked the ball into the back of the net.
Chesterfield were in the ascendancy and pushed for the equaliser. Top scorer Kristian Dennis replaced Chris O’Grady in the 67th minute for The Spireites. It did not take Dennis long to make his mark on the game.
In the 72nd minute, Dennis equalised with a superb long range looping shot over Yeovil keeper, Artur Krysiak.
It looked like another disappointing evening for Yeovil and their travelling supporters. However The Glovers captain, James Bailey made the journey back to Somerset a lot more happier.
Substitute Sam Surridge replaced Zoko in the 75th minute and forced a few decent efforts on goal. With the game closing down, Surridge crossed for Bailey at the back post to head in the winner and earn Yeovil a rare away win.
Yeovil captain Bailey, was pleased with his team’s determination, “When it went to 2-2 I thought ‘here we go again’ but we showed a bit of grit and determination and pulled it back.”
Yeovil manager Darren Way is now focusing on the weekend’s game when Colchester United visit Huish Park, “If we pick up a good result it’ll be our best home start for some time so I want to look forward to that.”
“I need to make sure everything we do from now to Saturday is spot on.”
