Rooney begins life in Ireland by netting three goals

FORMER Plymouth Argyle youth team striker Louis Rooney made an explosive start to his career with Linfield.

ROONEY’S REWARD: Ex-Argyle youth star Louis Rooney proudly displays the match ball after his thrilling debut hat-trick for Linfield in Northern Ireland
Rooney, who has signed a one-year contract with the reigning Northern Ireland Football League champions, was on the bench for their Bet McClean League Cup game against Lisburn Distillery at Windsor Park and had to wait until the 63rd minute to show off his skills to the home fans.

But he did that in some style as within 13 minutes of his introduction he had made the score 4-0 and followed that up by completing his hat-trick with goals in the 84th and 86th minutes.

Linfield manger David Healy, who recently opened the Northern Ireland SuperCup, was delighted with his new signing’s display – as was Rooney. ‘I just wanted to get on the pitch and ease myself back into football, but it was brilliant to grab a hat-trick,’ said the player. ‘Everyone’s been brilliant at Linfield and has helped me settle in Northern Ireland,’ added the former Pilgrims striker who made four first-team appearances for Argyle, scoring twice on his debut for the Home Park club.
