Unearthing the next ‘Super Luke’

The Plymouth Argyle Academy are holding open trials for all young goalkeepers in Devon and Cornwall this month.

The first trial for under-tens, under-11s and under-12s took place on the artificial surface at Ivybridge Community College last Sunday, with the second going ahead this Sunday (December 10) for under-13s, 14s and 15s. Both will run from 11.00 am until 1.00 pm with registration taking place at 10.45 am.

Argyle’s Academy have a hugely successful record of producing professional goalkeepers including current first-team captain ‘Super Luke’ McCormick.

Christian Walton also progressed through the Academy from under-nines to under-18s and has since represented England at under- 19, under-20 and under-21 level after being sold to Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion.

Mike Cooper is the latest goalkeeper from the Pilgrims’ Academy to play for the club’s first-team, making his debut against Black- burn Rovers in October as a second-half substitute and keeping a clean sheet.

All goalkeepers between under-ten and under-15 should register their interest in attending the trial with head of Academy recruitment Chris Harrison on: chris.harrison@pafc.co.uk
