News from the Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club's Men's Club Championship...

THE Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club’s Men’s club championship was played over two rounds. This incorporated the Fraser Mercer Cup – best gross score, entrants 14+ handicap and also the Peter Ridler Cup for best nett score.

The Scratch Cup for the best gross score was won by Eddie Cary (77+82 = 159) making him the new club champion. Runner-up was Kevin Jones – (84+78=162). Steve Crabb was third with 80+82 = 162.

The Fraser Mercer Cup was won by Dave Howat (86+87 = 173),  in second spot was Martin Drennan (90+86 = 176) with Nathan Dunford (90+90 = 180) third.

Mike Thompson won the Peter Ridler Cup with 69+70 = 139). Dave Howat came second (70+71 = 141) and Kevin Jones was third (74+68 = 142).

Fiona Lomax (34) won a mixed midweek Stableford by a huge margin of 11 points scoring 42 with Peter May (27) some way behind with his 31 points. Alan Jowett (22) took third with 29.

The veterans’ played a single division self-entry Stableford on their Thursday competition day. Thirty-nine players turned out and the winner by two points was Richard Fox (19) scoring 41 points. Ray Southcombe (14) with 39 was placed second after count back from Terry Garrett (25) who carded the same score. George Brown (11) took the fourth with 38 and Karl Rogers (22) was fifth after count-back with 37.
