SIDMOUTH Golf Club’s Mark Thomas won this year’s Learmonth Bowl at West Cornwall Golf Club, a 36-hole medal in memory of previous club professional JW Learmonth who served the club from 1910-1946.
Some 51 players took part on the day, coming from all over the country, but it was early starter and home player, Jordan Musitano, who led with a nett 66 in the morning. Just one shot further back were Thomas and John Jones (Sidmouth) whilst Ollie Naylor shot 68 and Rod Handyside and Ben Easterling both managed 69. Another ‘away’ player, Lucas Wood from Rotherham, led five players who shot 70.
In the afternoon, Musitano was unable to convert, dropping a number of shots on his last seven holes to finish with 74 and a 140 total while Handyside managed 71 to also score a total of 140.
Local Matt Dove had the best afternoon round, matching the best of the day with 66 to give him a total of 139. But it was Sidmouth’s Thomas coming in with 70 to finish on 137 who won the Learmonth Bowl by two shots.
The scratch event that runs alongside the main event was won by Trevose’s Guy Norris who shot 73 and 69 to total 142, beating Sidmouth’s Neil Holland by three shots (145; 72 and 73). In third place was Ryan Moore, from Mullion, with a 149 total having shot 75 and 74.
