REED BAGS A DOUBLE

Back-to-back wins for Axe Cliff golfer...

AXE Cliff’s Steve Reed played for some fine golf last week and was rewarded with back-to-back wins to add to his trophy cabinet.

Firstly he won the The Grainger Prior with a wonderful nett 64, Paul Clode came second with 70 just beating Stuart Mackie on a nett 72. Reed then went on to win the Gees Bowl with 65 points from Mike Cottam on 69. Anthony Hellier continued his good run taking third spot with 71 and had the only two in the Grainger Prior.

A varied week for the Axe Cliff Ladies began with a Sheelah Creasy Match at Sidmouth who proved too strong winning 5-2.

Next up was ‘The Flag’ a stroke play competition with the winner being the lady who gets the furtherest around the course using her handicap and par for the course. Barbara Cummings got to the 19th green before using up all her shots to grab a very good win.

To finish the week the Ladies were at Woodbury for a League match. Unfortunately the course was very busy so play was slow in the draining heat but the Axe Cliff ladies kept their cool to win 3½-2½ and also won their reserve game.
