Somerset’s Tom Sloman has been selected as part of a six-man England A squad who will take on seven other countries in an extended Costa Ballena match in Spain this January.
Sloman is joined in the squad by George Bloor (Derbyshire), Bailey Gill (Yorkshire), Ben Jones (Northamptonshire), Josh McMa- hon (Cheshire) and Nick Poppleton (Yorkshire).
The match takes place at Costa Ballena Golf Club from January 23-26 and has been extended from a quadrangular to an octagonal match. The other competing countries are Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands and Spain.
Taunton and Pickeridge’s Sloman, 20, won the 2017 under-21 Dutch junior open and his team-mates have also enjoyed success in recent times leading to their respective call-ups. Bloor, 22, represented England in the 2017 Costa Ballena tournament; Bailey Gill, also 20, won the 2017 Bernard Darwin Salver; Jones, 18, won the 2017 England Golf boys’ order of merit; McMahon, 22, was runner-up in the Portuguese amateur and the Duncan Putter, while Poppleton, 23, was a semi-finalist in the English amateur competition.
