HINCH CAN’T SAVE ENGLAND LADIES FROM HOCKEY DEFEAT

Semi-final defeat for England women's hockey team in Commonwealth Games...

HEROICS in the penalty shoot out from Taunton’s Maddie Hinch couldn’t save the England Ladies hockey team from defeat in their Commonwealth Games semi final against New Zealand on the Gold Coast, Australia today.

After the teams had battled out a 0-0 draw in normal time, goalkeeper Hinsh kept out three efforts in the 8-second ‘shuttle’ one-on-one shoot out, but the Black Sticks’ net minder Grace O’Hanlon, brought on as a substitute for her expertise in the procedure, went one better and it was left to Stacey Michelsen to fire the winning shot high past Hinch and clinch a 2-1 win.

The English team were left to try and pick themselves up for the bronze medal match where they will face either Australia or India.
