King’s College girls crowned champions

King’s College girls have been crowned champions of the annual Sherborne Invitational Tournament.

The Taunton college played Sherborne, King Edward (Bath) and Wellington in the group games, winning, 2-0, 2-0 and 3-0 respectively – Karis Chambers scoring a hat-trick against Wellington.

They reached the final with a 4-3 penalty strokes victory over Canford, with goals from Chambers, Beth Barzotelli, Eliza Chippendale and Abi White, while Elise Johnson Rai pulled off some fantastic saves in goal to book their place against King Edward (Southampton). The King’s girls dug deep and it was their grit and determination and their refusal to give up that led to their 2-1 win, with both goals coming from captain Barzotelli.

Said Clare Hayes, director of hockey: “This was great start to the season and all the girls contributed to this fantastic performance, with Ellie Clist being awarded ‘Player of the Tournament’ for her pro-active defending.”
