Plymouth Marjon set the pace

Plymouth Marjon set the pace at the West of England and South Wales League summit following an opening day 5-2 home win over Truro and an opening minute goal.

Ben Thomas fired the Reds into a first-minute lead and Matt Butt made it 2-0 after five minutes before Truro reduced the gap.

Two goals before half-time from newcomer J J Brown put Plymouth 4-1 up at the interval. Butt set up Ash Hough for the Reds’ fifth goal before Truro added a second.

Bristol University, Cardiff University, Cardiff and Met A and Team Bath Buccs A all won on opening day.

Bristol University beat newly-promoted Wotton-under-Edge, 3-0, while Cardiff University edged to a 4-3 home win over last season’s Championship winners Westbury and United Banks.

Cardiff and Met beat Whitchurch, 3-2, in their opening day Welsh capital derby while Buccs won 3-1 at Taunton Vale.
