£66k prize pot at Taunton


Taunton Racecourse hosts the Dave Criddle Travel Festive Raceday on Thursday with the first of seven races, boasting a massive prize pot of £66,000, due off at 12.30 pm.

There is a feast for racegoers on offer with two Class Three events and two three-mile races so another great day’s action looks to be in store.

If that wasn’t enough there is something for everybody to help get into the festive spirit. Mulled wine and mince pies will be on offer, along with a wide variety of seasonal trade stands, as well as musical entertainment from King’s College who will be singing Christmas carols.

First up is the King’s College Taunton Novices’ Hurdle race over two miles and half a furlong which is followed at 1.05 pm by the Ivor Brimblecombe Memorial Novices’ Hurdle over three miles.

The Dave Criddle and Wendy Wu Tours Handicap Hurdle race over two miles and half a furlong follows half an hour later.

The first of the two races over the fences is next with the Dave Criddle Travel and Bristol Airport Steeple Chase – a novices’ limited handicap – over two miles and seven furlongs, which goes to post at 2.10 pm.

The Dave Criddle Travel and Thomas Cook Holidays Handicap Hurdle race (Class Three) over two miles and three furlongs, with a prize fund of £12,000, is the next onto the course at 2.45 pm.

The most valuable race of the day is The Stables Busi- ness Park Handicap Steeple ’Chase (Class Three) following half an hour later over two miles and two furlongs, with a whopping £14,000 on offer.

The afternoon concludes at 3.50 pm with The Somerset County Gazette Handicap Hurdle race over three miles.

A courtesy coach departs from Taunton railway station two hours before the start of racing, returning from the course 30 minutes after the start of the last.

Punters are reminded that they can take advantage of up to 20 per cent discount available for tickets purchased in advance online at www.tauntonracecourse.co.uk up to 10.00 am on the day prior to racing.
