Churchill and Atkinson fight for second

Lynton trial star Joe Baker clinched the South West Centre Trial Championships for the 18th year on the trot when he won the Lyn club’s annual Tom Clarke Trophy event at Parracombe last weekend.

As a result he has no need to con- test the last of the ten-round championships at Hinton St George near Crewkerne this morning, but he will be among an expected entry of 70 plus who face three laps of 16 sections in woodland going at Hinton Park Farm.

British Youth champion Billy Green is anticipated to be Baker’s closest challenger, but the Newton Abbot teenager is not eligible for title points until next year’s series.

Connor Atkinson, who retired from the Lyn event, and Toby Churchill will be involved in a confrontation for second place, whilst further down the points table Sam Wooldridge will be out to consolidate his current position.

Positions are closer in several other classes, including the Clubman Expert sector where few points separate Tyler Rendall and Cornwall’s Ty Hendra and Simon James. Shepton Mallet’s Craig Comer heads the Past Masters class, but only by a minimal margin from David Sherlock and Mike Champion.

In the Sportsmans class it is a two-way shoot-out between Graham Mackie and Alan Barnes, and the over-50 years of age title is set to go to Cornwall with Mike Jacobs.
