TIEING THE KNOT: Bristol and West Athletics Club’s international sprinter Emily Diamond has married her childhood sweetheart, James. The pair have known each other since students at Bristol Grammar. Emily, one of the country’s leading 400-metres runners, with major championship medals from the Olympics, Worlds and Europeans, is hoping to add to her collection with a Commonwealth Games gold in Brisbane next year

Just two weeks after winning a silver medal in the 4×400-metres relay at the World Championships in London, Diamond, who lives in Frome, married her childhood sweetheart James. The pair have known each other since they were students at Bristol Grammar, where Emily launched her athletics career, starting out as a cross-country runner.

Ten years on and she is one of Britain’s leading 400- metres sprinters, boasting major championships medals from the Olympics (Rio 2016), Worlds (2017) and Europeans (Amsterdam 2016).

All being well she will add a Commonwealth Games gold in Brisbane early next year.
