Bridgwater sign Kiwi prop Blyde and lock Kelly

Bridgwater have signed a young prop with a bright future to bolster their South West One squad.

Tight-head Craig Blyde, who hails from New Zealand’s North Island, was on the Bridgwater bench for yesterday’s meeting with front runners Drybrook.

Blyde has played for Bay of Plenty U19s in the Jock Hobbs New Zealand National U19 Cup.

A graduate of the Matamata College rugby academy, Blyde has been playing for Greerton Marist RFC in Hamilton.

Simon Morrell, the Bridgwater head coach, said he has liked what he has seen of Blyde in training.

“He came highly recommended – and I can see why,” said Morrell.

“Craig is a young, dynamic ball carrier who has come over to develop his game.” Morrell has been busy on the recruitment front over the past week as lock. Aaron Kelly has also signed.

Kelly’s previous club was Teignmouth, where Morrell coached for five seasons before moving to Bridgwater for 2016-17. Kelly found 1st XV opportunities limited with Teignmouth at the start of the current campaign and decided to move on.
