CHIEFS NARROWLY BEATEN IN THRILLER AT NORTHAMPTON

EXETER Chiefs slipped to their second Premiership defeat of the season on Friday evening when they were beaten 31-28 away at Northampton Saints.

Saints’ bonus point win at Franklin’s Gardens has moved them up to fourth in the table.

The hosts made a great start and went two tries up in the opening 10 minutes through Piers Francis and Dan Biggar.

But Chiefs levelled with a penalty try and one from Santiago Cordero.

In an end-to-end affair Fraser Dingwall restored Saints’ lead before Ben Moon added a third for Exeter, who had earlier had one disallowed when Ollie Devoto was ruled not to have grounded the ball over the line.

But back came Northampton and Cobus Reinach intercepted and ran in from 60 yards.

Biggar then added a penalty to give Saints a 10-point cushion before Matt Kvesic crossed two minutes into added on time to secure the Chiefs two bonus points which moves them five points clear of Saracens in second place.
