CHIEFS’ TOWNSEND SET TO MISS THE REST OF THE SEASON

EXETER Chiefs scrum-half Stuart Townsend is set to the miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Townsend picked up the injury in the Chiefs’ Heineken Champions Cup home defeat to Gloucester.

Exeter also have concerns over the fitness of Aussie international Nic White due to a foot problem and Jack Maunder, who needed treatment on an ankle problem during Friday’s European away win at Gloucester.

However, Exeter’s director of rugby Rob Baxter (pictured) is hopeful that both White and Maunder will be fit to face Premiership leaders Saracens on Saturday at a sold-out Sandy Park.

“If Jack’s ankle injury is a problem, then that could cause us an issue for next weekend,” said Baxter. “Stu Townsend has got a pretty serious knee injury and is probably out for the rest of the season.

“Nic White’s foot injury doesn’t look at this stage as bad as the last injury he had there before and it is more like a stirring up of that problem, we are hoping it’s just a couple of weeks.”
