BATH centre Jonathan Joseph is back in England contention after nine months out with an ankle injury.

The 27-year-old, who has 40 caps for his country and has also played for the British Lions, has been added to England’s training squad ahead of their opening Six Nations match against Ireland on February 2.

Joseph’s late inclusion in the squad came after he proved his fitness at the weekend playing for Bath against Toulouse on Sunday.

Eddie Jones will decide after a training camp which 25 of the 36 players in the squad he will take to Dublin.

Gloucester’s 22-year-old winger Ollie Thorley is one of four uncapped players in the squad and Jones believes he could have a future as an international player.

“He runs hard and he’s fearless,” said Jones. “He is strong, courageous, powerful and bright. He could be a bit of an x-factor player that comes through at the last moment. A very physical, direct player. He has the right approach, 100 per cent committed, and wants to be the best player he can be, so it is exciting for us to bring him into camp.”
