FORMER Cornish Pirates fly-half Aaron Penberthy came back to haunt his old club on Sunday by kicking a match-winning penalty as Jersey won 8-7 at Menneye Field in the Championship.
In a game of few chances, Jersey took the lead in the 20th minutes when Will Homer went over in the corner after good play from a line-out by hooker Charlie Maddison.
But six minutes later the Pirates went 7-5 ahead when number eight Tom Duncan forced his way over the line and Will Cargill added the conversion.
Cargill had already missed one penalty before Jersey’s opening try and, in windy conditions, he missed with two further attempts at goal.
As the game went into the final quarter, Jersey upped the tempo and 10 minutes from time they got the penalty that replacement Penberthy put over to win the game.
