THE Cornish Pirates missed out on reaching the Championship Cup final after losing 58-26 away at Ealing Trailfinders.
The Pirates made a brilliant start to the semi-final and stormed into a 21-5 lead after just 20 minutes.
Dan Frost put the visitors in front after less than 60 seconds and Alex O’Meara scored a second try almost instantly. Both tries were converted by Harvey Skinner.
Ealing hit back with a try by Jordan Burns, who would go on to score four, before the Pirates added a third when Robin Wedlake intercepted an Ealing pass to score.
But the hosts finished the first half strongly to go in at the break 27-21 ahead.
Burns added his second before James Cordy-Redden cross. Former Pirates player Laurence May converted both and also added a conversion to edge his side ahead for the first time. Cordy-Reddon then added a second before the interval.
Ealing took control of the game at the start of the second period when Harry Sloan scored in the corner.
O’Meara got his second and the Pirates’ fourth but then the west London side ran away with the game, with the visitors also having Harvey Skinner and John Stevens sin-binned.
Dave Johnston, Rayn Smid and two more by Burns sealed the win for the home side. Ealing will now play London Irish in the final in May.
