STRONG FINISH FOR TABLE TENNIS YOUNGSTERS

Dorset County Cadet teams finish runners-up in their respective divisions...

DORSET fielded two County Cadet (under 15) table tennis sides this season and both teams finished strongly to secure runners up places in their respective divisions.

The 1st team, including Portland 12-year-old Jessica Moggeridge, managed to see off Essex, Glamorgan 2 and Sussex 2 with impressive 9-1 victories, then secured a battling 6-4 success against nearest rivals Middlesex to win the runners up spot.  The eventual winners, Devonshire, won all six of their matches, only conceding eight points all season, three of those against Dorset in a 7-3 win.

The Dorset 2nd team included a strong Weymouth contingent throughout the season. Jed Brackenridge, Ben Howe, Ethan Bingham, Ella Stanton and Sophie Storey played in the final two matches and these finished with 6-4 and 7-3 wins against Bedfordshire 1st and 2nd teams respectively. In an earlier round Edith Dedman and Ella Stanton starred in a 7-3 win over Wiltshire to put the Dorset team in a strong position, but a close 6-4 defeat to a very good Gloucestershire side proved the difference at the top.

Next season Dorset will be entering two teams at both cadet and junior (under 18) levels as the county look to spread the net and give more opportunities to potential new players across the county.

The county are keen to hear from players across all age groups and should contact Andy Millar (a.millar212@gmail.com or 07710507075) to find out more about training and trial dates.
