South West Coastal League action coming to Exmouth Rowing Club...

EXMOUTH Rowing Club will host the third round of the South West Coastal League on Saturday, May 5.

It has been named the Langstone Approach and will feature 8k races for both men and ladies classes, with masters and mixed competing over a shorter 4k distance.

The regatta is open to all seaworthy boats including pilot gigs. All races will start off the seafront at Exmouth and will run straight out to the Fairway buoy. Crews will then head over a rectangular course out to the Langstone Rock between Dawlish and the Warren before heading back to the seafront area.

Event organisers Les Norcliffe and Morag Van Niekerk have confirmed that there will be a briefing at 9.30 am for all competitors and the racing will start for the ladies’ class at 10.30 am, followed by the men’s at midday.

This will be followed by the shorter masters’ race at 1.30pm and the mixed event at 2.30pm. They have also confirmed that the club has a number of boats available for loan and interested parties should contact either Les, on 07941 99820, or Morag, on 07585 298725.

Entry fees are £6 per seat and those wishing to participate are reminded that the closing date for entries is Sunday, April 29.

The league, involving eight regattas, starts this weekend when the Teign Scullers club host the first off Teignmouth beach and is followed by the Mayflower event in Plymouth on April 21 when crews will race around the main breakwater in The Sound.
