THE world’s best bobsled and skeleton racers will be sliding into Innsbruck/Igls on Friday to tackle the Olympic Bobsleigh Run, also used for Channel 4 show ‘The Jump’, during the fifth event of the 2017-2018 World Cup season.
Among them will be Honiton’s Marcus Wyatt who will be competing against an Olympic gold medalist, world champions and multiple other Olympic and world medalists.
Wyatt’s first race was back in March 2016 and he is currently midway through his second full year of competition.
So far this year he has featured on the middle tier Intercontinental cup (ICC) where he finished 6th in both races and then 2nd and 4th in Calgary.
These results qualified Wyatt, who celebrates his 26th birthday on Thursday, for the chance to test himself in the World Cup. After Friday’s race a decision will be made as to whether he stays or returns to the ICC.
Wyatt told Indy Sport: So far this year has been better than I could have imagined, I have made really good improvements and raced really well so far.
“I owe a lot of my success to my amazing coaches, support staff, friends and family for all the support they have given me. It is an honor to represent my country and without them it wouldn’t be possible.
“The track at Igls is not one that I have spent a lot of time at, but I believe I can still do well as it is a track that suits me. All I can do race day is put in a good performance and see what happens but I already know whatever happens is a massive bonus on the season already.”
The race is live on the BBC red button and on Youtube/user/bobskeletv. The first heat starts at 9am UK time, second heat (for those that are in the top 20 after run one) will start approximately 11am.
